Myofascial trigger point treatment – Dry Needling

Myofascial trigger point treatment

Myofascial trigger point treatment is a treatment for patients with pain symptoms caused by myofascial trigger points. This means, that a very small part of a muscle cannot relax, causing a kind of mini-cramp in a particular spot coffee bean. This causes this part of the muscle to acidify, which will cause pain. From the muscles associated with the pelvis, pain can be felt in the abdomen, pelvic floor, genitals, low back, buttock, upper leg and groin. The pain can also feel like an organ pain, such as bowel pain, bladder pain, prostate pain, without any abnormality found on medical examination. Trigger points can also cause muscle weakness in the affected muscle.

We specialize in treatment of trigger points in the pelvic area both through manual techniques (treatment by hand) and dry needling.

Dry needling

Dry needling is a technique, in which the trigger point is pricked. This immediately relaxes the piece of muscle. The needles we use are so thin that one does not feel when they pass through the skin. We are the first pelvic physiotherapy practice in the Netherlands to specialize in the dry needling technique in the treatment of pain in pelvic and pelvic floor areas. We now have years of experience with it and are very enthusiastic about this treatment method. We also offer special dry needling techniques for pain symptoms that arise from scars on the skin or in the brook floor muscles.

The dry needling treatment method is so effective that we offer this treatment method to colleagues through the training “Dry needling for pelvic physiotherapists” offered by the Dutch Paramedic Institute.
