Sexual problems: in men and women
Women often experience pain symptoms during penetration or attempted penetration. Lack of arousal, getting wet or being able to experience orgasm. There may also be reduced sensation during penetration due to a too-weak pelvic floor muscle, such as after childbirth. Men often experience erection problems or pain in groin, penis or scrotum during or after sexual activity. Premature ejaculation can also be a source of trouble. These symptoms can be caused or maintained by tight abdominal, gluteal, leg and pelvic floor muscles. Learning to relax and control these muscles can provide relief from these symptoms.
In our practice, we regularly see women and men who have a negative sexual experience. Usually, symptoms related to a negative experience can be reduced under the guidance of a pelvic physical therapist.
